In Others' Words: Laughter

"A laugh is a smile that bursts." ~Mary H. Waldrip

Laughter is my favorite sound.
When my entire family is home and the house is full of laughter, I'm content.
One of my favorite things to do with my kiddos is to play a card game like UNO with them. I don't know what it is about card games, but my daughters are overcome by uncontrollable giggles.
Another sure-fire way to create laughter in the Vogt family? Watching the reruns of the original Dick Van Dyke  television show. I can still see my then 10-year-old son laughing so hard that tears ran down his face. I just found DVD sets of the TV series at Costco and I'm now savoring laughter with my youngest daughter as she watches the series.

What about you? What causes your smile to burst wide open into laughter? What's the last thing you laughed about?

My family! Whenever I'm with family, something always happens to make me laugh. Hmm...the last thing I laughed about? Pretty sure it was about five minutes ago at work...I have pretty darn entertaining coworkers...:) Also pretty sure I shouldn't share 'cause we like people to think we're professional...

I laugh at myself often. It makes life more fun. Last time I laughed was yesterday after a bug bit my cheek. The bite looks like a nice big zit. Yeah puberty again. :D

Laughing at family (with family?) and laughing at yourself--some of the best reasons to laugh!!

I had a good, lung-cleansing laugh this past weekend. Our college daughter was home for a visit and invited her new friend fellow to dinner. I'm a lousy cook and dread preparing meals for non-family members.

Turns out this young guy is a total foodie who cooks scrumptious meals. At one point I teased him about potential weight gain from eating his own culinary creations. He responded with a comment about how he'd much rather work out than eat cardboard.

For some reason his comment struck me as funny, so funny that I started laughing and couldn't stop. He saw my shoulders shaking with silent laughter and wondered what was up. My daughter explained that he'd cracked me up.

Eventually I was able to speak. I wiped the tears from my eyes and told him with a smile on my face that the next time he visits I'd love for him to do the cooking.

Your story made me smile, Keli. My daughter is engaged to a guy who loves to cook. I love to watch him at work. He inspires me. Not to cook, mind you. He just inspires me. LOL
